No Goals–> Couch Potato

The ‘no-goal’ decision taken in my previous post Do we always need to have a goal?  is not working for me.

I tried hard to not to pick up a goal and lived like that. But I realized that without a goal, am pretty much a couch potato (Useless).

So like the comments on my post about -Short and long term goals, I’m going to do the exact opposite of what I started out to do. I am going to create some short and long term for myself:

  • Going to learn a new language: I always wanted to learn a new language. So I will just randomly pick on one language and try to learn at least the basic syllables so that I am able to, at least, converse at a basic level. Are you getting a Geek alert from me ?? Sorry am not one!

  • Learn to be with a pet: I know you’ll be thinking what a weird person. I must tell you I am literally afraid of all kinds of pets. So I am going to be with a pet and be very friendly with it. Fingered crossed !Will complete this without freaking out.

  • Learn a musical Instrument: This will go into my long term plan, as I know from my experience that learning a musical instrument takes practice -lots of it. So I have a keyboard at home, I’ll get it from my hometown when I go for Christmas. So sadly, it will shift to next year.

  • Go for morning walk: I have always been very health conscious. Evening jogs are my favorite. But recently, because of my work that is not possible and I am not a morning person. So somewhere drawing a line between my laziness and my work life, I’ll get up at 7:00am for morning walk from Monday (I can sleep till then, a girl needs to have her reward right?)

These are the goals that I can think of right now. It will evolve, I know with time, as I grow, as I go to new places and as I get to know more people .

Let me know about your goals and your struggles surrounding it. Will love to hear from you guys.

Twisted ordinary

Carpe Diem!(Latin aphorism, usually translated as “seize the day”)

I always have felt that life turns out as you look at it. Offcrse there has been times in my life when I found it very difficult to come in terms with reality of it. But more i think of it, the more I come to realize that no matter how bitter I was … Those little things actually carved me to what I am today.yes! I used the word ‘carved’ , because we all are made slowly slowly with what happened to us in the past.

You can look at the world as it is or choose to see it in your colors. Now I don’t mean that you start living in your own bubble. The most perfect example will be- how a photographer captures a picture in a frame which we find very fascinating, though we might be passing by the same image everyday over and over again; yet, we fail to realize the beauty that he/she captured in his frame.

These pictures are so beautiful but are you sure.. we would have given these people a second thought if we passed them by?

The joy in the boys’ smile, the mystery in the girls’ eyes and the colors in the vendors’ shop. Pity us! that we need a picture to make us realize the beauty in these everyday things!

On the other hand, most of us will definitely see the below if it happened in front of us(though not in the majestic way the photographer pictured it).

Our mind recognizes things  which may harm us, mostly it recognizes anything which differs from the pattern of the routine. This is the time when we crave for the calm of the routine and cringe from the unforeseen aftermath which the calamity may leave behind.

One of my friends had a near death experience… a very major case of typhoid.  While most of us will wither away…not her ! Offcrse she was scared of whether the treatment will work or not. She held on.. kept it going for her. Later, when I met her, she would tell me her experience of walking to her office after she was cured. She noticed for the first time, the morning breeze, the sun rays and saw the people walking past her in hurry. She said now I live everyday observing the little details of life. It doesn’t take much time to see these things but we forget to look around when everything is going well.We take it for granted. Why to always wait for a near death experience to feel the importance of life? Why a roadblock to make us realize the blessing of a smooth road ? Why a calamity to feel the calm of everyday routine ?? Not everything has to be differentiated into black or white.

I think that is a the key to life ..to see everyday things from a different angle or perspective. This is what philosophers meant when they said to live everyday like your last.

“Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.”~William Martin,The Parent’s Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents

Look at the world with your good eye and you will see the difference. Likewise, every situation in your life- good /bad will pass in time and believe it or not, tomorrow, you will be better person because of it.
